Decades of experience in commercial, management, government industry and communications, Ms Summers is a strong advocate for women shining in the business world.

“Sydney and Newcastle were blokes’ towns, with women expected to speak their turn. Leaps of change for women since mean Hunter women compete on the domestic and world stage in very different industries,” she said.

She’s worked with national and international companies like Qantas, held management roles in not-for-profits, cruise ships, mining and military ship building and has also been chief of staff to the Lord Mayor of Newcastle.

In the last six years, Ms Summers and her partner Tony Lobb have set up manufacturing company Brain Industries International in Carrington which strives to use the Hunter’s local industrial skills on new projects to make things for Australia and overseas markets in mining, tunnelling, oil & gas, energy and marine.

Also on the board of the Hunter Business Chamber, her firm was runner up in the 2020 Hunter Manufacturing Awards.
