Australian businesses using belt conveyor systems now have another local manufacturer and refurbisher of conveyor pulleys.
Brain Industries has launched its new range of custom designed conveyor pulleys including drive pulleys and non-drive pulleys.
Brain’s managing director, Gillian Summers, said its Newcastle pulley manufacturing centre will benefit a range of industries.
Ms Summers said Brain’s conveyor pulleys are suited to all applications and industries including port facilities, underground coal mines, open cut mines, hard rock mines, coal loading facilities, overland conveyors, tunnelling projects, food and grain handling and quarries.
She said conveyor pulleys are an essential component of belt conveyor systems. Pulleys provide the drive and tension to move a conveyor belt which is essential in the process of handling materials such as minerals, grain, packages, and people.
“Selecting a quality, Australian made, conveyor pulley is essential to a conveyor systems’ performance and reliability,” Ms Summers said.
“Brain has invested significantly in new equipment so we can carry out every engineering and testing activity on site to reduce lead times and control quality,” she said.
Ms Summers said Brain meets the requirements of ISO 9001. Brain makes pulley shells and end discs from certified AS3678 Grade 250 mild steel plate. All welds meet the stringent requirements of AS1554.5. Those welds are ultrasonically tested in accordance with AS2207-2007 Level 2 and magnetic particle tested in accordance with AS1171-1998.

In a boost for the Hunter region’s local manufacturing sector, Brain is making the pulleys at its Newcastle engineering workshop.
